Paramahamsa Vishwananda Birthday

Celebrate A Life of Love

People describe Guruji's birthday as one of the most personal days of the year to be near him. Come and see what it's like.

People come from around the world for Paramahamsa Vishwananda's birthday. Many describe returning home changed in small but lasting ways calmer, clearer, more settled. The celebration runs over three days and includes traditional ceremony, teachings, music, and darshan.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda in celebration

A Satguru's birthday in the bhakti tradition

In the bhakti tradition, a Satguru's birthday is considered one of the most auspicious days of the year. The Sanskrit word Satguru means "teacher of truth" — in the tradition, a teacher understood to embody what they teach. Devotees describe such a birthday as a day when the teacher is not teaching but celebrating, and when the atmosphere of a gathering can feel especially open and alive. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to perform. Come as you are.

More than a celebration

An unusual kind of gathering

An unusual kind of gathering

Most large events ask you to perform. People describe this one differently. Many speak of it as the first celebration in a long time where they didn't feel the need to be "on" — and didn't want it to end.

What stays afterwards

People who attend often describe the day as carrying forward. Not as a peak experience that fades, but as something steadier. Many report feeling calmer, softer, and more connected to their life for weeks after returning home. The celebration is structured around traditional elements: bhajans, teachings, darshan, yajnas, and the bhandara meal.

Come as you are

You don't have to believe anything. You don't have to understand anything. You don't have to fit in. People come, sit, sing, share food, and find connection quietly.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda — the teacher at the heart of this day

Paramahamsa Vishwananda is the founder of Bhakti Marga and a teacher in the Hindu bhakti tradition. He was born in Mauritius in 1978 and has taught publicly in more than 40 countries since 2005. In the bhakti tradition, he is regarded by his students as a Satguru — a realized teacher understood to embody what he teaches. Devotees describe his teaching not as a set of ideas to learn, but as something lived and transmitted.

In his own words: his purpose is not to have people renounce life, but to help them love it more fully.
